Sylvain Jaudon French National Conservatory
This initiative as ambitious as it may seem far fetched will arouse a keen interest in the contemporary pianist. More than ever each individual pianist needs to know where he has come from: to learn the (hi)story which shaped and created him.
Listening to Rachmaninov playing his Elegy on a modern piano is not simply for musicians and collectors eager to satisfy their curiosity but a genuine experience bringing us closer to his emotional reality.
What pianist has never dreamt of listening to Busoni or Lhevinne on a modern-day piano, thus being able to detect all the subtle nuances of their performances?
Pascal Marcelin's vision and dedicated work bring us decades of music of "times gone by", therefore showing interpretation is an art regardless of current trends and that GREAT artists of the past are not as distant as we once thought.

Jean-Noel Regnier The Great Performers
This beautiful CD affords a different approch to piano music as performed in the first half of the twentieth century: state-of-the-art technology allows us to listen to long-since dead musicians with greatly improved sound quality.
It enables us to get closer to an unfamiliar musical world by putting famous musicians side by side with others, lesser-known ones, and tuning our present-day conception of performances upside down.
Such recordings are a reliable rendering of the artist's performances, as in those days, almost no technical means where available to improve potentially disastrous takes.
For over an hour, Pascal Marcelin's diligent work takes us back more than a century in time to collate information about this far-off world and above all to steep us in it through sound and imagination.
An impossible dream come true!

The Pianists of old resuscitate at Ampico
Pascal Marcelin's work is a great improvement on that of other labels, having taken considerable trouble over faithfully reproducing the mood of each performance. The result is stunning precision and the best possible listening conditions: eyes closed, we have the impression of sitting just a few feet away from legendary artists such as Busoni or Lhevinne.

Rachmaninov and Busoni in your living room / Jean-Louis Validire
The results, compared with conventional procedures, are quite outstanding both in quality and mood. Listening to Rachmaninov's ardent performance of Liebesfreud and Elegy is an unforgettable experience.

Ouvert la Nuit / Oliver Bernager
Such high quality reproduction makes it hard to believe these pieces were played in the twenties!

A fascinating experience and incredibly clear, not only in the tone but also in the interpretation.
